"Testing the standard Higgs with EFT tools"
The discovery of the Higgs boson at the LHC has confirmed the Standard Model as the correct low-energy description of the electroweak interactions. The next task for ATLAS and CMS is to ascertain the nature of the Higgs particle and scan for physics beyond the Standard Model. In order to correctly interpret the experimental data coming out of these searches, effective field theories are the right tool, providing a theoretical framework able to parametrize deviations from the Standard Model in a general, consistent and model-independent way. In this talk I will discuss in some detail the foundations and scope of different EFTs and will highlight some phenomenological examples where the standard Higgs hypothesis could be tested.
