It was recently proposed to recover QCD for a fixed abelian charge by summing over all possible projections for the generating function with respect to the characters: this determination relates directly to the pathology of reweighting at nonzero baryon densities. By relating the functional Boltzmann factors for the lattice to a Cauchy-distributed probability density function we quantify the reliability of the reweighting approach and thus similarly combine multiple lattice ensembles to identify fluctuation driven critical phenomena delineated in QCD by a critical endpoint.
